Most Common Forms needed for Tax Prep

  • W-2 Forms. If you do not receive the form by the first week of February, contact your employer to request. In case of your previous employer going out of business, try to find your final pay stub if you do not receive a W-2. Finally, it is always a good idea to compare the year-to-date amount shown on your last pay stub of the year with the amount shown on your W-2.

  • Forms 1099-INT and 1099-DIV. These forms report for the interest incomes and dividends you earned from the banks, brokerage firms, mutual funds, and companies.

  • Other forms 1099. 1099 Forms report real estate sales, stock sales, and Social Security, pensions, IRA distributions, unemployment compensation, state or local tax returns, gambling and lottery winnings, or fees paid to independent contractors.

  • Form 1098. These forms report the amount of mortgage, home equity interest, student loan interests, or the qualified tuition expenses.
